After Alex Otti resumed office on march 11, 2011 as the CEO of Diamond bank Plc he quickly restructured the loan facility previously granted to Geometric power plant and diamond bank resumed the funding of the facility till completion.

The Geometric power plant facility was further challenged because of gas supply problem, when Alex Otti became governor on on my 29th, 2023 he immediately swung into action by engaging top management in NNPC to provide solution to the gas problem.

The Geometric power plant is said to distribute 24/7 electricity to the 7 Local government in Aba.

“It is with great pleasure and honour that I joined His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima GCON, and other eminent personalities to commission the Geometric Integrated Power Project (GIPP), a landmark achievement in the power sector. Three (3) roads were also commissioned in Aba yesterday: Queens Street, Jubilee Road and Umuoba Road.

The Geometric Integrated Power Project is the culmination of 20 years of visionary leadership, diligent work, and steadfast commitment by Prof. Barth Nnaji and his team at Geometric Power Aba Limited, who have constructed a 141MW, scalable to 188MW power generation and distribution facility that will provide reliable and quality electricity to 9 local governments in Abia State within the Aba ring-fenced island.

The project also demonstrates the effective collaboration and support of the Federal Government, the financial partners, the Aba business community, and the people of Abia State, who have all played vital roles in making this dream a reality.

As the Governor of Abia State, I am immensely proud and privileged to be part of this historic occasion. I have a personal connection to this project, as I supported the process when I served as Executive Director at First Bank but was subsequently financed during my tenure as the Group Managing Director/CEO of Diamond Bank. I have also worked tirelessly with my team to resolve the gas supply challenge that impeded the project for almost a decade.

I wish to express my gratitude and recognition to one of my predecessors, HE Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who granted the initial waivers to Geometric, thereby reducing the risks of the transaction. Without those waivers, it would have been impossible to finance the project. Special thanks to the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR who was the Chairman of Diamond Bank at the time, and who contributed significantly to the resolution of the ownership dispute of the ring-fence island.

The Geometric Integrated Power Project is a catalyst for the economic and social transformation of Aba, the Enyimba City, and Abia State, God’s Own State. It will enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of our industries, create employment and empowerment for our youths, and improve the living standards of our people.

I, therefore, appeal to prospective customers and our people to pay their electricity bills promptly and resist the temptation to undermine the revenue generation and payment for gas supply by the company. I also urge the company to be customer-centric in its approach to service delivery in line with the NERC guidelines. Community leaders must also collaborate with security agencies to address the issue of vandalism.

At this juncture, we wish to declare that Aba is ready and open for business. We invite investors to take advantage of the opportunities that abound in our state.
