Access bank Plc, an indigenous bank from Nigeria lost its chairman Mr Herbert Wigwe, family members and other yet unidentified people on a helicopter presumably taking them to watch the super bowl in California state in America.
The Group director of Access Bank Plc, Herbert Wigwe, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash on Wednesday around 10 pm local time in Nipton, California, a community in San Bernardino County.
The helicopter took off from Palm Springs, California, at 8:45 pm and was headed towards Boulder City, according to Michael Graham, a board member of the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Eurocopter EC130 was carrying six people, including Mr. Herbert, his wife, first son, two crew officials, and bank executives. As of now, no survivors have been found or identified.
Mr. Herbert Wigwe was a visionary who, along with his partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, conceived the idea of owning a bank while still working at Guaranty Trust Bank, another indigenous bank of Nigeria. They solicited investors and secured the support of the famous Maduka of Coschsris Motors.
With ample funding and solid investors, these two ambitious young men launched the Access Bank project in their early 30s, which later merged with Diamond Bank Plc, holding the larger share of the market.
