In response to the CAF’s decision, the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) denied any deliberate wrongdoing during the Super Eagles’ airport experience.
The Nigerian team’s rerouting to Al-Abraq International Airport and the ensuing 20-hour wait were regrettable events, but they were not intentional, they said, adding that the lengthy incarceration and logistical problems were not planned.
Despite these justifications, CAF stuck to its decision, rejecting Libya’s appeal and reiterating that the AFCON procedure infringement justified the $50,000 fine and the loss of three points.
